THE PERSON, IWJ ROMIEL Esq


Ibeinmo Williams Johnny Romiel  was born on the 21st of April, 1984 in Nembe present Bayelsa State. He started his Primary School in State School II Nembe and finished in Lizperes Emaculate Academic Centre Woji Estate Porthacourt. He went on to complete his secondary education at Nembe National Grammar School (NNGS) Nembe in the year 2003. 


Barr Romiel is a broadly skilled individual with over Sixteen years of experience in private, civil and public service. Presently, Barr Romiel is the Principal Solicitor of IWJ ROMIEL & ASSOCIATES  (GLISTERS ATTORNEYS).


Glisters Attorneys is a Port Harcourt based​ Law firm with an affiliation with top law firms in Abuja, Lagos, South Africa and London. The firm is specialized in Litigation, Soliciting, Arbitration, Property and Corporate law Practice. 


Barr Romiel, started his political career in the year 2002 in his maternal home Sikaka Polo Nembe Bassambiri under the able leadership of Dr Ikaonaworio Eferebo, the then Chairman of the Nembe Local Government Council and now Regent of the Opu Nembe Kingdom who saw the shining star in him and not just employed​ him into the Civil Service but also encouraged​ him with the needed finances to pay up his WAEC and other sundry fees to enable him advance his educational career. Barr Romiel later became a key player in the political camp of late Hon Opusiri Otobo who represented Nembe Constituency III in the State House of Assembly between 2003 -2011. Hon Opusiri, upon seeing the Leadership credibility in him encouraged him in contesting a seat in the local Government  legislative arm in 2007 which elections were not conducted till 2010. Barr Romiel was also a top kitchen cabinet member of the Hon Sylva Waribugo's political family while he served as Executive Chairman of Nembe LGA where Romiel was appointed Special Assistant and he performed his duties credibly well. In March 2010, he contested in a fairly conducted election led by the electoral committee chairman John Sambo and he immerged President of the National Union of Bayelsa State Students (NUBSS) admist three other contestants, where he played leading roles in not only active rights activism but also influenced public sector institutions building in the state. 


His rare show of humility, dedication and commitment to service endeared him to former Commissioner for Finance, budget and economy Dr Silva Opuala-Charles who did not only appoint him as his top aid then in government but has immeasurably supported and guided his growth till this day. 



Barr Romiel, as then leader of students in Bayelsa State in consultation with his executive council struggled for the successful payment of two years bursary allowance; He led five thousand students solidarity walk in favour of Chief Timipre Sylva and presented to him the famous NUBSS NATIONAL MERITS AWARD for his love for students. Same day, he called for the dissolution of the Special Bursary payment committee whom he was a member, for want of honesty and credibility in the bursary payment process; He pioneered legislations on regular payment of bursaries, scholarship and other student's welfare in the state through Hon Opusiri, which was eventually thwarted; He made a public call on the then President Goodluck Jonathan in town hall meetings and other fora for the establishment of a Federal University in the state which later led to the establishment of Federal University of Otueke. Furthermore, in the spirit of giving back to society, he partnered with Niger Delta University Chapter of the union led by Comr Selekiye Tarabina and donated educational materials to the Niger Delta University through the Vice Chancellor of the institution running into millions of naira. Finally, his leadership was also able to fulfill his campaign promise of establishing a Secretariat for the Union.  


Barr Romiel has Masters in Law (LL.M), specialising in Constitutional and Human Rights Law and was called by the Chief Justice of Nigeria as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria on 27th November, 2014 after graduating with second class honours in Bachelor of Laws LL.B from the Prestigious faculty of Law, Rivers State University Porthacourt. 


In January 2015, Barr Romiel was appointed by the Chairman Council of Traditional Rulers of Bayelsa State His Eminence, King Alfred Diete Spiff as his Technical Assistant (TA), a position he served in merit and until his acceptance of his Master degree studentship offer at a later part of the year.


Barr Romiel, is a Port Harcourt based Human Rights lawyer, social reformer, scholar and an advocate of peace. He has to his credit the following publications / articles:

He is a distinguished member of the Nigeria Civil Liberty Organization (CLO), Member of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), member of the International Bar Association (IBA) and other top associations both locally and internationally. 


He is the founder and the presiding leader of Bayelsa Liberation Group; a group with vision to support credible and God fearing persons into public office. The group is also one of the renowned groups known in projecting Barr Romiel in his desire to represent Nembe constituency II in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly come 2019. 


Barr Romiel is married to Mrs Tonah Beinmote Romiel and they are blessed with two girls and two boys.
